By Amy Bentley Sunday, August 9, 2009
Forty years ago today, the world was riveted by the massacre of actress Sharon Tate and four others who were brutally stabbed to death in her Beverly Hills home.
The story of the grisly killings became all the more bizarre when details about the suspects came out: The murderers were drifter Charles Manson and his band of hippie followers, caught up in the free-love and drug-using lifestyle of 1969.

HELTER SKELTER: Bobby Beausoleil grew up in Santa Barbara, left town as a teen, and made a big mistake: getting involved with Charles Manson. Today, he still sits in prison for the 1969 murder of fellow musician Gary Hinman.
I was reminded of this son of a milkman by the publication of local author Ivor Davis’s update of his 1970 book on the Tate-LaBianca murders. On the 40th anniversary of Manson’s sensational crimes, Davis is publishing Five to Die: The Book That Helped Convict Manson. It’s got 28,000 words of new material.

CHARLES MANSON'S SECRET PRISON BUSINESS
August 2, 2009 --
CHARLES Manson secretly runs an autograph business out of his cell, peddling his signature to sicko collectors of crime memorabilia, a new book claims.
In "Five to Die," out this month from Thor Publishing, veteran journalist Ivor Davis claims the homicidal cult leader has become one of the richest inmates in the California corrections system by selling signed photos and other mementos he quietly smuggles out of Corcoran State Prison.

MURDER MOST FOUL: 40 YEARS LATER By Ivor Davis
“Forty years later this case is still insane…what’s missing from the story? Nothing. It has everything...murder, sex drugs, rock and roll, psychos, movie stars and motor cycle gangs…”
Steven Tierney, producer Fox News. Aug 2009 |

"Veteran foreign correspondent Ivor Davis paints an unforgettable and chilling picture of the Hollywood cult slayings that shocked the world. When first published, "Five to Die," became the blueprint for the prosecution case that nailed Charles Manson, the Guru of Death. The evidence and witnesses Davis unearthed were so vital to the case that drug crazed Manson Family members threatened Davis, his wife and daughter. That’s how important this book is. It’s a gripping inside story containing a wealth of new material that will astound you.
